Dear Parents and Community Members,
As always, the school year seems to be flying by as we come to the close of the first semester here at Kranz. I am proud to report that we have many things to celebrate this school year that we can all be proud of. First, we have worked successfully to develop and implement a student assessment system to monitor your child's progress towards meeting the assigned grade level standards in English language arts and mathematics. Approximately every twenty days, students are given a test on five key California Standards to check on their progress. After the test, teachers meet to discuss learning goals and determine how best to provide classroom instruction to help all students learn. Struggling students are assigned by their teachers to extended reading and math skills shadow classes, and may be invited to after school/Saturday programs for additional help. Another success at Kranz is our after school programs. We are currently offering daily homework help in our after school homework center, THINK Together program, English Language Development tutoring, math tutoring, language arts tutoring and Saturday Algebra Academy. These programs are designed to assist students who may be struggling and are not already enrolled in an intervention program. Helping students achieve is our goal at Kranz, and we are constantly looking for ways to help them and provide assistance. Additionally, to support the enrichment needs of our students we offer softball, basketball, digital photography, cooking, film appreciation, chess and a host of other programs both during P.A.W.S. and after school. Finally, we are proud to say that we have many programs to help address the needs of our community. Students are referred to counseling, anti-bullying, AmeriCorp mentors and behavior modification programs to help them develop the skills they need to be successful in high school and beyond.
We are proud to be cougars! Part of being a cougar is to be determined, helpful and focused. If you need our assistance, the Kranz staff is here for you. Don't forget to share this letter with your child and ask them about other great opportunities at Kranz.
Sincerely,
Raymond Andry, Principal
